Business development is the creation of long-term value for an organization from customers, markets, and relationships.

This position will support the Cherrylake Landscape Maintenance Division.   Our maintenance division is the fastest growing segment of our business. We actively pursue new maintenance opportunities in the following segments: Theme Park and Resort, Multi-Family / Apartments, Commercial Office and Industrial, Single Family Community Infrastructure and Amenities, Healthcare and Assisted Living.   

The primary role of the Maintenance Business Developer is to develop relationships with decision makers and influencers; coordinate strategic selling activities of the organization; and close targeted opportunities to meet sales goals.  The Business Developer is required to grow and retain existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services to clients.  Strategic planning is a key part of this job description.  The business developer is accountable for maintaining a pipeline of new business coming into the company. This requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions and services the company can provide, and knowledge of the company’s competitors.

The Business Developer will report to the Director of Landscape Maintenance of Cherrylake and work closely with the maintenance division leaders to identify targeted opportunities and close deals.  The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in the landscape industry, as well as experience in sales.  Candidates must be open to working collaboratively in teams and committed to personal growth and development.  

Responsible to: Director of Landscape Maintenance

External relationships: Home Builders, General Contractors, Developers, Owners, HOA’s, Property Managers

Internal relationships: The Strategic Selling Team, Executive Team,  Marketing Team

Salary:  Base + Commission

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 

 

New Business Development

  • Prospect for potential new clients and project opportunities

  • Qualify, prioritize and target strategically aligned opportunities

  • Maintain and develop a network of industry relationships

  • Identify key decision makers and influencers within the industry

  • Set up meetings between client decision makers and company’s key staff.

  • Plan strategic selling approaches for targeted opportunities * Work with team to develop selling strategy, milestones and proposals that speaks to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.

  • Participate in pricing decision by reviewing Net Margin for proposals based on competitive analysis and labor utilization.

  • Handle decision maker objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion.

  • Promote company image, brand, culture and value.

Client Retention

  • Conduct ongoing customer service evaluations and meetings with existing clients

  • Work with operational team and other internal colleagues to address customer concerns and needs throughout service lifecycle.

  • Coordinate CNPS Surveys

Business Development Planning

  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.

  • Present to and consult with executive team on business development strategy.

  • Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and strategies that will lead to an increase in sales and profitability.

  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiation.

Management and Research

  • Submit weekly progress reports and ensure data is accurate.

  • Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s CRM.

  • Forecast sales targets and opportunity ratings, and ensure they are met by the team.

  • Work with marketing staff to ensure that prerequisites (like prequalification or getting on a vendor list) are fulfilled within a timely manner.

  • Gather intelligence on competitor positioning, activity, strengths and weaknesses.

  • Understand the company’s goal, culture and purpose and align business development activities accordingly.

REQUIRED LICENSES/HOURS OF WORK

Valid Driver’s License State of Florida – Class E and clean MVR

40+hour work week. May be required to work additional hours during peak times.
