JOB SUMMARY 

The Jr. Propagator will work side by side with the Sr. Propagator and be primarily responsible for the propagation and production of a large number of woody ornamentals and shrubs for the 1200 acre farm. Will provide the daily organization and distribution of production work assignments, supervise and guide field staff, evaluate all crop activities and coordinate for all necessary support functions to yield the highest quality liners.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Execute production plan based on Sr. Propagators direction

  • Work with and Supervise Greenhouse crews on a daily basis

  • Propagate plants based on the Master Plan quantities and timing.

  • Conduct cycle counts to keep inventory accurate at all times.

  • Report shifting, consolidation & dumping to ensure accurate inventory.

  • Scout crops to identify problems such as diseases, weeds, and pests.

  • Monitor crops for nutritional deficiencies and work with the plant health team to make adjustments where needed.

  • Monitor soil moisture on a regular basis in each zone.

  • Monitor sticking quality (Planting depth, cutting quality, and cuttings per day).

  • Implement, track, and monitor herbicide rotations of liner crops outside the greenhouse.

  • Schedule grading crews based on shifting crews schedules and crop ready dates.

  • Coordinate cutting collection with other supervisors prior to production crops being pruned.  

  • Document Processes and procedures

  • Design, execute, and document trials 

  • Staff training through demonstration.

  • All other assigned duties.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Ornamental Horticulture or Environmental Science a must.

  • Highly organized, computer literate, demonstrate self-initiative, able to multi-task and take pride in quality production.

  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills, effective time management.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

  • A high degree of proficiency in developing and analysis reports using information from a variety of information resources and databases.

  • Computer skills using one or more spreadsheet and word-processing software application programs.

  • Able to drive and operate farm vehicles such as trucks, mules, jeeps or ATV’s.


REQUIRED LICENSES / HOURS OF WORK 

Monday through Friday 40+ hours per week, may be required to work weekends depending on company needs.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to outside climate, including extreme heat and cold conditions. 

  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to effectively use small hand tools, equipment, keyboard, pen and pencil. 

  • Sit, stand, bend and walk for long periods of time during the day and night. 

  • Repetitive lifting of up to 50 lbs.
