Plant Health Care Specialist - Plant Pest Management
JOB SUMMARY
The Plant Health Care Specialist will perform various pest management activities which include but are not limited to: disease control, weeding, fertilizing, applying herbicide and overall inspection of plant health for all outsourced plant material.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Pest, disease control, and controlling weeds: Inspecting plants for disease, insects, and other problems
- Perform tree & shrub treatment applications by Cherrylake best practices.
- Performs daily checks of fallen trees and ensures all trees and shrubs are upright and tied to Cherrylake standards.
- Identify and communicate field observations of tree conditions and disease issues which are to be provided to loading management.
- Perform daily checks of irrigation and ensure all irrigation end caps are open weekly to drain all impurities.
- Be willing to work within other departments when the Plant Health Care workloads are minimal. This could include inbound, pulling, and outbound.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, including inclement weather, which will involve standing, kneeling, entering and exiting vehicles/equipment, and assisting with cleaning Cherry Select sections.
- Paint designated areas for staging shrubs to Cherrylake standards.
- Communicate any questions, concerns, or incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ months of prior experience working in a nursery or tree farm, in cultivation/harvesting and/or installation of commercial plant material, handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities.
- Prior experience with pest management in a horticulture industry is a plus.
- Plant knowledge and identification is a plus.
- Knowledge of agricultural equipment is a plus.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
REQUIRED LICENSES / HOURS OF WORK
Physical Demands
- Work can be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, lifting, sitting and walking.
- Able to sit, stand, bend and walk for long periods of time.
- Times when regular lifting and/or movement of product up to 75 pounds is required. Operation of heavy farm equipment machinery.
Work Hours: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Saturday, 45-50 hours per work week during the growing season and 40 hours per week. Occasional evening work may be required as job duties demand. May be required to work additional hours/days during peak times or as needed.
