SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE 

This is an exciting opportunity to join an industry leader that is positioned to take on substantial growth in the coming years. The Human Resources Department of Cherrylake services operations in agriculture, construction and manufacturing with an employee base of over 500 comprised of year-round, seasonal, H2A and H2B staff. This HR Generalist will work in a highly collaborative manner in conjunction with the Human Resources/OD leadership team to implement the most effective and strategic HR policies and programs.  

The HR Generalist will be directly responsible for the administration and strategic implementation of the following functional areas: benefits administration, performance evaluations, recruitment/employment, on-boarding, policy implementation, and employment law compliance.  Candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, and a keen ability to develop and implement processes in a complex environment. Additionally, the HR Generalist will assist in promoting positive relationships between employees and management and must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who can relate to individuals at all levels within the organization. The Generalist must be sensitive to corporate needs, employee goodwill and the business needs.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS 

Essential Duties

  1. Administers various human resources plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.

  2. Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.

  3. Administers and monitors the performance evaluation program. Distributes and monitors employee performance evaluations and ensure they are done in a timely manner (i.e., three months, six months, one year and yearly thereafter). 

  4. Performs benefits administration. Organizes and manages annual open enrollment communications and election process. Strive to ensure employee understanding of benefits programs by regularly generating communication and counseling employees/dependents as situations arise. Resolve employee questions related to health and welfare plans, refer difficult or very complex complaints to manager as needed.

  5. Coordinate and assist with the ACA and ERISA benefits reporting requirements.

  6. Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel and temporary employees; conducts new-employee orientations; monitors career-pathing program; and writes and places advertisements.

  7. Maintains and processes all Unemployment Notices of Entitlement and potential charges in a timely, efficient manner. Attends unemployment hearings when necessary.

  8. Ensure compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification; periodically audits Forms I-9.

  9. Handles employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing.

  10. Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.

  11. Maintains company organization charts and the employee directory.

  12. Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to  continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.

  13. Maintains human resource information system (HRIS) records and compiles reports from the database.

  14. Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.

  15. Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.

  16. Assist with H2 program coordination and record keeping.

  17. Assist with WC claims coordination. 

  18. Assist with development and implementation of safety programs and strategies to help prevent or eliminate work related accidents and injuries.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  1. A bachelor's degree and four to five years of  HR experience, or a master's degree in HR management and two years of experience in the HR field, or seven years of experience in the HR field, or any similar combination of education and experience.

  2. Bilingual (English & Spanish) required.

  3. Experience administering employee benefits, including health, welfare and 401(k).

  4. Must have a general understanding of employment laws relating to the position's responsibilities.

  5. Strong P.C. & organizational skills - intermediate experience with the use of MS Word & Excel & Google Docs. 

  6. Valid driver’s license and clean MVR.

  7. Experience utilizing ADP Workforce Now is a plus.

  8. Agriculture & construction industry understanding a plus.

 

WORK HOURS & ENVIRONMENT 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.
