Palm Farm Laborer
 

JOB SUMMARY 

This position involves a variety of tasks, the main tasks are planting and harvesting trees/palms, loading and unloading of products and pruning of trees/palms. The individual will be trained in all job functions and follow Cherrylake’s tree maintenance and shifting processes to yield high quality trees and total customer satisfaction.

Worksite Location:  Fort Pierce, Florida

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Maintain trees to meet Florida #1 standards or better according to Florida grades and standards.

  • Maintain constant shapes between containers or in ground crop sizes when pruning.

  • Operate farm machinery, tools and farm tractors as needed.

  • Shifting or crops from one size to another.

  • Loading and unloading of crops. 

  • Follow Cherrylake pruning processes and procedures.

  • Sanitize Equipment between trees when pruning.

  • Stake according to Cherrylake procedures.

  • Apply fertilizer and herbicide according to Cherrylake procedures.

  • Apply pesticides as indicated by Pesticide License Applicator (if applicable and trained)

  • Maintain clean sections free of weeds, leaf litter, suckers, and trash.

  • Communicate with the team and other departments.

  • Work efficiently.

  • Team work environment.

  • Demonstrate a safe work environment.

  • Maintain Equipment to make sure it is in excellent working condition.

  • Assist in picking up trees after storms.

  • All other duties assigned.

Physical Demands 

  • Full range of mobility in upper and lower body; overhead reaching; ability to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time.

  • Strenuous physical exertion with continuous lifting, bending and stretching. 

  • Ability to lift objects independently from 50 lbs and over without assistance. 

  • Ability to do work with using ladders of different sizes to reach trees. 

  • May be required to demonstrate the ability to use hand equipment, such as clippers, loppers and machete safely and in regulation with CL’s procedures and safety OSHA standards. Mechanized equipment is used as needed.

Job Site Conditions 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather (heat or cold), pollens and dust.
     

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 3 months prior experience in Agriculture or related field.

  • Must be able to follow Cherrylake’s tree maintenance procedures.
     

REQUIRED LICENSES / HOURS OF WORK 

Monday through Friday, start and end times vary depending on organizational needs. May be required to work overtime during peak times.
