Horticulture Crew Member - Farm Production
JOB SUMMARY
Join our nursery team and play a key role in producing healthy, high-quality plants. As part of the shifting and planting operations crew, you’ll perform a variety of hands-on and machine-assisted tasks that keep our nursery thriving. Responsibilities include filling containers with soil, planting and shifting small or large container products, repairing ground cover, removing weeds and debris, and maintaining planting areas. You’ll also root prune liners, identify and correct root issues, and plant them into containers using proper horticultural techniques. Additional duties include labeling plants, loading and unloading containers, and supporting potting machine operations. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, staying active, and contributing to the growth of sustainable nursery products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Receive daily work assignments and schedule from the Team Leader; plan and organize crew workflow to stay on track.
- Lead and supervise team members, ensuring quality, productivity, and adherence to safety protocols throughout the day.
- Record required data, track daily tree counts, and enter information into the Task On Time (TOT) system.
- Maintain equipment and tools, reporting mechanical, safety, or inventory issues promptly; ensure proper return of tools at the end of the day.
- Monitor work areas for safety and quality, addressing hazards, damaged trees, or field issues and reporting them as needed.
- Train, orient, and support new employees in company procedures and best practices.
- Encourage teamwork, address performance or discipline concerns, and foster a safe, efficient, and productive work environment.
- Ensure sections are cleaned daily and materials (bamboo, tape, buckets, etc.) are organized for removal or reuse.
- Support company goals by meeting production targets and upholding Cherrylake’s standards of quality and service.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 1 month+ of experience working in horticulture, agriculture, landscaping, or other outdoor labor-intensive environments.
- Experience using basic hand tools or performing manual labor such as planting, pruning, or grounds maintenance.
- Familiarity with safe work practices, PPE use, and outdoor working conditions.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
- Demonstrated manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks such as planting, pruning, assembling containers, and handling small tools.
HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time core position. Monday through Saturday, 40+ hours per work week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather (heat or cold), and moving mechanical equipment.
