JOB SUMMARY 

Direct, train and support the daily activities of the Large Container Tree Maintenance crews.  Monitor production efficiency and quality metrics to ensure work orders are getting completed in a timely manner.  Ensure crews are following all safety protocols and using proper PPE (personal protective equipment) that is required for the task at hand.  Forecast and prepare for future work loads and ensure the crews have the proper materials and tools in advance.  Crew Leaders should work alongside the crew members while periodically stopping to check quality, safety, and efficiency.  Crew Leaders should be able to effectively perform all job functions associated with both LCTF Crew Member I and II. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Receive and accept work assignments from Team Leader and plan for the day to ensure that team and workflow stays on schedule.  
  • Record all data required and enter into the Task On Time (TOT) system
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and report any mechanical or safety issues to the supervisor immediately. 
  • Lead the team 
  • Meet with the supervisor in the morning before work begins to receive the schedule for that day.
  • Pick up tools (after receiving the schedule from the supervisor) for all employees for that day.
  • Ensure that all team members are working to the best of their ability through the day.
  • Keep a log of everyone’s tree count for each day and turn in to the team leader at the end of
  • the day.
  • Take care of any equipment problems and report them to the supervisor.
  • Report any problems with tools to Inventory supervisor or your supervisor and explain what
  • the problem is with the tool so it can be fixed.
  • Return all tools to inventory every day at the end of the day. (Report any problems with the
  • tools to Inventory supervisor).
  • Report any and all injuries to the supervisor or the HR office (immediately).
  • Notify any discipline problems to the supervisor for attention.
  • Communicate any problem that is noticed in the field (ex. damaged trees, loose ropes, trellis
  • problems, washouts, etc).
  • Assist in orienting and teaching new employees cherry lake procedures and practices.
  • Supervise team member’s work for quality and quantity.
  • Enforce all safety rules.  Report unsafe acts or conditions to Team Leader immediately.  Assist Team Leader with daily counts and other duties assigned.
  • Continuously monitor productivity of the group.  Encourage group performance.
  • Support the Cherrylake Mission Statement and Strategies by meeting production goals, taking pride in one's work and achieving high degrees of quality and service.
  • Balance work by working closely with crew, keeping the pace of work and inspecting quality of work.
  • Always clean the section at the end of the day (trash, bamboo, tie tape, buckets, ladders, rakes).
  • Weeds need to be pulled as you are pruning. Please make sure that team members are doing
  • this every day.
  • Bamboo must be piled so it can clearly determine what bamboo needs to be removed.
  • Make sure that your crew reaches the goal set by the supervisor daily. This will help your crew
  • productivity and allow you to work as a team.
  • All other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 1 year of prior tree farm, nursery or greenhouse experience or related field. 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Perform simple numerical operations such as counting.
  • Effectively communicate and follow directions.
  • Tree identification.
  • Responsible, capable of assigning duties and training or demonstrating methods to efficiently accomplish work in a safe manner.
  • Familiar with shifting and consolidation practices preferred, but not required. 
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to write and operate small hand tools and farm equipment
 

REQUIRED LICENSES / HOURS OF WORK 

Valid driver's license and clean driving record a plus. 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Saturday, 40+ hours per work week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather (heat or cold), and moving mechanical equipment.
