Junior Propagator Greenhouse
 

JOB SUMMARY 

Motivated individual who has a passion for horticulture and learning propagation. Work side by side with the greenhouse team in all daily tasks. Will provide the distribution of production work assignments from the Head Propagator, evaluate all crop activities and coordinate for all necessary support functions to yield the highest quality liners. To succeed in this role, candidates should have a strong passion for agriculture/horticulture, display leadership qualities, good organizational skills and be able to pay close attention to details.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Willingness and ability to work in greenhouse environment, high humidity and excessive heat 
  • Execute production plan based on Head Propagators direction
  • Work with and supervise greenhouse crews on a daily basis
  • Work with greenhouse crew in the field collecting cuttings, preparing and planting
  • Prepare hormones for the daily production
  • Learn the operation of our irrigation system, manage irrigation clocks for any irregularities and report to Head Propagator 
  • Report shifting, consolidation and dumping to ensure accurate inventory
  • Scout crops to identify problems such as diseases, weeds and pests
  • Monitor soil moisture on a regular basis in each zone
  • Monitor sticking quality (Planting depth, cutting quality, and cuttings per day)
  • Lead safety tailgate trainings and safety initiatives
  • All other assigned duties

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Entry level position; prior greenhouse experience a plus 
  • High school diploma/ GED a plus 
  • Organized, computer literate, demonstrate self-initiative, able to multi-task and take pride in quality production.
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills, effective time management.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Computer skills using one or more spreadsheet and word-processing software application programs a plus 
  • Able to drive and operate farm vehicles such as trucks, mules, jeeps or ATV’s.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / HOURS OF WORK 

 

Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 40 hours per work week. Some evening and weekend work required. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather (heat or cold), and moving mechanical equipment. Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to effectively use small hand tools and equipment. Sit, stand, bend and walk for long periods of time during the day and night. Repetitive lifting of up to 50 lbs.
